Clayton Norman Hawks

FT. GRATIOT: Clayton Norman Hawks, age 76, went to meet the Lord unexpectedly on Friday July 8, 2016. He was born March 15, 1940 in Worth Twp., son of the late Clifford and Eileen (Cole) Hawks. He married Sandra Fulayter in 1960 and they were blessed with five children: Cindy (James) Henderson of Texas, Keith (Cheryl) Hawks of Oklahoma, Wayne (Jan) Hawks of Croswell, Debra (Steve) Jolley of Jeddo, and Gerry (Jennie) Hawks of Avoca. He later married Helen Hastings in 1982 and gained a lovely extended family including Diane Hastings, Gail (Rick) Broom, Connie Hastings, Debbie Nichols, Julie (Reese) Sein and Allan (Julie) Hastings. Helen preceded him in death on December 28, 1999. He is also survived by his best friend of 37 years, Susie Okoniewski; two brothers Jarold (Marijean) Hawks and Ronald (Barb) Hawks; a sister Marilyn Blashill; and was very proud of his 45 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He will be missed by all. Clayton was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Hawks. Clayton was a graduate of Amadore Grade School, Cros-Lex High School class of 1958, and St. Clair County Community College. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1958 and served proudly on the U.S.S. Blandy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and supported the Bay of Pigs along with the Lunar Moon Capsule Recovery. He achieved the Quartermaster Rank. He enjoyed 50 years in working for the automotive industry serving his apprenticeship at Huron Tool & Die in Lexington. He was the owner/operator of HLR Quality Manufacturing and Black River Manufacturing in Port Huron. His achievements included journeyman machinist tool setter, National Acme Multispindle automatic bar & chucker machines, motivational management, certification and implemented automotive ISO 14000 certification for unusual sales ability. Clayton was a member of the American Legion Post #255 Croswell, National Rifle Association of America, active at Bethel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed a lifetime of hunting, fishing, boating and building. His happiest times were spent with his family, friends and co-workers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday July 12, 2016 at Pomeroy Funeral Home in Lexington. Pastor Mark Harriman will officiate. Burial will be in the Croswell Cemetery. Military Rites provided by the Croswell American Legion Post #255. Visitation will be 2 – 8 PM Sunday and Monday, and 10 – 11 AM Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church.
