Catherine J. Santoro

Catherine Santoro (nee: Mullen), age 88, a resident of Detroit and formerly of Croswell, passed away on October 25, 2016. Daughter of the late James and Margaret (nee: Ultsch) Mullen. Born and raised in Croswell, Michigan, she moved to the Detroit area in 1947 to attend Delmar Beauty School. After securing her license as a Cosmetologist, she enjoyed a successful hair dressing career owning her own salon, and working for various area coiffeurs such as Mary Green (Detroit, Michigan), Leon’s (Grosse Pointe, Michigan), Bitonti (Birmingham, Michigan) and Maier –Werner (Grosse Pointe, Michigan). She married in 1950 at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Croswell, Michigan. While raising her family in Detroit, Michigan she was active with St. Matthews Catholic Church Altar Society, various Scouting groups and stayed busy in the community. As a devout Catholic, she is best remembered for praying the Rosary and the Memorae, as well as attending church regularly. Her Irish temperament was reflected in her optimistic view of life and set many examples through her thoughtfulness, kindness and charity toward others. Her gifts of being quick witted and creative eye was demonstrated in her knitting, sewing, ceramics, china painting, interior decorating, upholstering and many other hobbies. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are blessed with the same talents. She is survived by 7 children: Philip (Maureen), James, Mary Bommarito, David, Robert, Margaret Santoro-Jacobs, and Dewey J.; 10 grandchildren: Jennifer, Carl and Tony Bommarito, Dayna (Joseph) Moser, Matthew (Stephanie), Dewey Jr., Francis, Patricia Santoro and and Lisa (Edwin) Pineros-Jacobs and Brian (Kim) Jacobs; 6 great grandchildren: Alexandra Bernhardt, Joseph Jr. and Evelyn Moser, Madison and Charles Santoro and Mirabelle Jacobs; and dear sister Mary Ann (Don) Barg. She was preceded in death by her former husband Dewey, daughter Martha and siblings: Geralda, Patrick (Margaret) and Charles Joseph Mullen, Rose (Bruce) Gordon and Agnes (Howard) Stack. Visitation will be from 3-9 P.M. on Friday at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Croswell. Rosary Devotions will be held at 7 P.M. Friday evening at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be held at 9 A.M. on Saturday at Ave Maria Parish-St. Denis Catholic Church in Lexington, with visiting at the church from 8-9A.M. Saturday morning. Fr. Donald J. Eppenbrock will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Croswell.
