David A. Gabel

David Anthony Gabel, age 72, of Clifford, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home on April 15, 2020. He was born on June 11, 1947 the son of the late Anthony M. and Bertha P. (Lowry) Gabel. He is survived by his loving daughter, Terry (Mike) Grant and three beloved granddaughters; Randy Hughes, Samantha Grant and Lindsey Grant; brother Dennis (Caroline) Gabel, sister Carol Gabel; nieces, Tracy (Dan) Young, Cindy (Nandor) Hernadi and Debbie Gabel; nephews Jeff (Paige) Gabel and Greg Gabel; and a host of other relatives and long-time friends. David spent his life training, breeding and racing thoroughbred horses. His knowledge, patience and skill in his field helped him to condition and train these magnificent animals that are known for their spirit, agility and speed. His unbridled passion for anything equine was reflected throughout his home. David enjoyed being able to spend quality time with his daughter and granddaughters after moving to Clifford. He looked forward to relaxing in his favorite wooden swing on the farm and watching the girls ride their horses. He was a devoted "Soccer Papa" who loved to attend his granddaughters games. In his retirement years he refined the craft of discovering incredible bargains at local flea markets and yard sales. He was thrilled to find out that the family cottage that his parents had built in Lexington in 1949 was now a rental. He reconnected with a few old friends and for two summers shared a week of of the joy of cottage life and swimming in Lake Huron with his family while building priceless new memories. His constant companion on all of his adventures was his beloved dog, Jake. David's laughter, wisdom, stories, quick wit and his smile will live on in the memories of all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be loved and forever missed. We're sure that he and Jake are once again embarking on some exciting adventures. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Lexington. Visitation will be from 1-2 P.M. on Wednesday. Rev. Linda Fuller will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Following the services at the cemetery a luncheon will be held at the Sanilac County Park #2 on Lakeshore Rd. north of Lexington (www.sanilaccountyparks.com/lexington). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to a charity of your choice.
