Leonora H. Thiel

LEXINGTON- Leonora H. Thiel, age 99 1/2 , passed away quietly at Marwood Manor on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 with her daughter by her side. She was born February 12, 1917 in Croswell to Hugh and Pearl Bradshaw, the third of 6 children. Leonora grew up during the depression in Lexington. She married Frank W. Thiel on June 11, 1938, and lived in Detroit, where they raised their 3 children, Janet, Bill, and Rob. When Frank retired in 1980, they moved permanently to the family home in Lexington. Frank preceded her in death March 11, 1990. Leonora attended Macomb Community College to continue her studies in the fine arts. She always looked at life through an artist’s eye. She participated in the Lexington Fine Arts Fair since its inception and now her paintings hang in homes around the world. Leonora belonged to the Blue Water Art Club in Port Huron, and the Black River Art Club in Lexington. Leonora loved her family and enjoyed being with them. She also liked playing euchre, making patchwork quilts, doing crossword puzzles, knitting for Mary Maxims Fair Godmothers, and, of course, always working on a painting. She is survived by her daughter Janet (Lawrence) Dent, and sons Frank William (Dianne) Thiel, and Robert Thiel; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer (Gerald) Weaver, Jonathan (Jackie) Dent, Jeffrey (Sarah) Dent, Steven (Suzie) Thiel, Thomas Thiel, Scott Thiel, and Nick Thiel. She had 4 great grandchildren, Michael Dent, Henry Dent, Christopher Dent, and Aimee Thiel; as well as several nieces and nephews who were very dear to her. Visitation will be from 4-8 on Monday at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Lexington. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home, with visiting from 10-11 Tuesday morning. Pastor Barry Sheldon of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lexington will offiicate. Interment will follow in the Lexington Cemetery. We would like to thank the people at Marwood Manor who cared so much for her, especially Jim, Linda, Brenda, Naomi, Hillary, Stephanie, Sarah, and so many more. You made Marwood a loving place for her to spend the final years of her life. Memorials may be made to Marwood Nursing and Rehab or Black River Art Club or the Blue Water Art Association.
