Margaret E. O'Mara

CARSONVILLE: Margaret Elizabeth O’Mara, 85, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Port Huron. She was born October 1, 1925 in Detroit to the late James M. and Margaret R. (Sheridan) Maher. Her family moved back to Carsonville prior to her attending the Frazier Country School for early elementary and Carsonville School where she graduated in 1943. After graduation, Margaret worked at the Smith Store, Paynes Grocery Store, and the Post Office, all located in Carsonville. She was employed by the Carsonville-Port Sanilac Schools from 1975-1996. Margaret married Edward J. O’Mara, the love of her life, on January 17, 1953. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2000. Margaret loved to garden. It gave her great pleasure to make centerpieces at Christmas to give to her friends and family. She also enjoyed sketching. Margaret was a wonderful cook and she was known for her homemade bread, potato salad, baked beans, and lemon meringue pie. She loved music and singing, especially Dean Martin and a good Irish tune. She was a devoted fan to “her” Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. Margaret was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Port Sanilac for over 80 years. She was very active in many church groups and served as a Catechist in earlier years. Margaret was very devoted to her children and will be sadly missed by her daughter Maureen O’Mara, her daughter and son-in-law Jacqueline and Daniel Allen, and her precious granddaughter Sheridan Rose Allen, all of Carsonville. She is also survived by many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Michael Brady of Sandusky, DeAnne Maher of Walled Lake, James Beers of Peck, Joseph and Carroll O’Mara of Carsonville, Lois O’Mara of Paso Robles, CA, Patrick and Joan O’Mara of Cape Coral, FL, Jerry and Sally O’Mara of Charlestown, NH, William O’Mara of Grayling, and Katherine Hill of Sandusky. In addition to her husband and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her siblings; Mary T. Keglovitz, Kathleen Mika, Joan Brady, Michael and James J. Maher, also many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; George Keglovitz, Joseph Mika, Michael and Marge O’Mara, Brian and Fran O’Mara, Ellen Beers, Patricia O’Mara, H. Tim O’Mara, Ruth M. O’Mara, and Marvin Hill. Visitation will be 7-9 PM Sunday, October 17, 2-9 PM Monday October 18 at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Carsonville, and 10 AM Tuesday October 19 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Port Sanilac. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 19, 11 AM at St. Mary with Rev. Donald Eppenbrock and Rev. Paul Bala officiating. Burial will be in Old St. Mary Cemetery.
