Marion J. Walding

LEXINGTON- Marion J. Walding, age 95, a resident of Lexington passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at her home. She was born on May 1, 1931 in Worth Twp., a daughter of the late Russell and Carrie (Scott) Newton. Marion married Ralph E. Harneck on June 7, 1952 in Applegate. He preceded her in death on December 25, 1985. Several years later Marion married William T. Walding on January 24, 2004, he preceded her in death on June 29, 2017. Marion was in the first graduating class of the Cros-Lex HS in 1949; she was a librarian at the Aitken Library in Croswell for many years and also worked at the Lake Huron Methodist Camp; Marion was an avid quilter completing over 80 quilts and dozens of afghans and prayer shawls; she also enjoyed baking for her family and friends. Marion was a longtime member of the Lexington United Methodist Church. Marion is survived by her five daughters, Dawn (Bert) Phillips of Croswell, Marlene (Mike) Szweda of Harwood Hgts., IL, Ellen Harneck of Port Huron, Eileen (Fred) Haight of Burtchville and Laurene Harneck of Elkhart, IN., four grandchildren, Jeremy (May) Szweda, Jessica Fearington (Chris Arrowood), Sarah Haight and Joshua Haight; her stepchildren, Frank (Carla) Walding, Julie Walding and Rose (Bill) Scott; her sister-in-law Shirley Newton of Traverse City; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers and sister-in-laws, Melvin and Sarah Newton, Leland and Maxine Newton and Warren Newton; and her stepson, Thomas Walding. Visitation will be from 12 Noon -4 P.M. on Sunday at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Lexington. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday at the funeral home, with visiting from 10-11 A.M., Rev. Geri Hamlen of the Lexington United Methodist Church will officiate. A luncheon will immediately follow at the church. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery in Carsonville at 2 P.M. Monday afternoon. Memorials in memory of Marion may be made to the Lexington United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank all of Marion’s special caregivers; Helen, Brenda, Bernadette, Amanda, Kim, Tricia, Laurie, Lisa, Tina, Cornerstone Caregiving and McLaren Hospice.
