Marvin F. Palmer

Croswell- Marvin Frederick Palmer, age 81, a resident of Croswell passed away at his home on October 21, 2014. He was born on March 27, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan a son of the late Lloyd and Laurabelle Palmer. As a young man, Fred worked nights alongside his father in the family bakery in Marine City, Michigan. Fred attended Military School in Milledgeville, Georgia and upon returning home acquired his seaman's papers, starting a new challenge sailing the Great Lakes extensively as a merchant seaman. Fred enlisted in the United States Army and served with distinction during the Korean War. Military service completed, Fred returning to sailing the Great Lakes and later worked until retirement as a tug bargeman for the railroad when raising a family became his priority. Fred was an avid and competitive bowler and golfer, he worked hard to be the best at the sports he loved. Fred took pride in modifying his own golf clubs and drilling his own bowling balls , to make them his own. He enjoyed collecting movies, caring for his beloved cats and dogs and was always up for a good intellectual debate with family and friends. He believed in going out of his way to help others and supported numerous charitable organizations. Fred is lovingly remembered by his daughter Michelle Palmer (David Malik) of Ontario and his son Federick (Jessica) Palmer and his grandsons Kade and Koeden Palmer of Greenwood, Michigan. He will also be greatly missed by his siblings Martha-Mary (Gary) Willson of Larkspur, California, Susan Trudell of Shelby Township, Michigan and Timothy (Roxanne) Palmer of Oakley, California; his nieces and nephews Mark (Barbara) Willson, Nancy (David) Willson-Strader, Constance (Peter) Shyvers, Mary Catherine (Shane) McKibben, Laurabelle (Brian) Cummins, Matthew Palmer and Jessica Palmer; his great nieces and nephews April Marie Formaz, Katie Formaz, Alisha (Gregory) Bastein, Skyler (Brian) Willson-Ko, Wyatt Willson, Kacy Willson, Jennifer (Joseph) Gorum, Bryan (Stephanie) Cummins and Sara Jane Cummins. The family will be holding a private service to honor Fred's life. memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or VA Homeless Veterans Program.
