Maureen "Mo" E. Young

Maureen “Mo” Estella Young, passed away peacefully at her Croswell home on August 15, 2026, with her family at her side. She was born in Port Huron on March 16, 1937, to the late Edwin and Lulu Burch. She graduated from Croswell-Lexington High School in 1955, having earned a varsity letter in basketball and many accolades for her excellent typing skills. After graduation she worked for a time at Michigan Bell in Port Huron as a keypunch operator before marrying her beloved Gary on October 4, 1957. It was an auspicious beginning to a wonderful life together as it was the day that Sputnik 1 launched. She said they could see the tiny satellite in the night sky. Mo had so many interests and passions in her life. She was a homemaker, wife, and mother of the highest order. She was a wonderful baker and home cook and was always learning a new recipe or technique to try out in the kitchen. She taught her children to bait a hook and wait patiently for the strike! Mo loved to plan and plant her beautiful gardens and even enjoyed weeding. She took up photography as a hobby to support her love of painting in watercolor and pastel. She was an accomplished painter and loved to encourage and teach others. She was the treasurer and a longtime member of The Black River Art Club. That group of artists and friends remained among her closest throughout her adult life. Another favorite pastime was birding. Anyone who visited Mo in her living room would marvel at the array of birds that would be at her window on any given day. There were very few she couldn’t identify immediately. She loved music and performed duets in high school with her best friend Teddy (Barney) Cronin. She continued to sing in church, often performing in Christmas productions. She had a deep and abiding faith and love for her Savior. Above all, Mo loved her family. Her sweet Gary and her children. She is survived by her children, Bradley Jay Young, Croswell and Dana (William) Cutler, Suffolk, VA. Her beloved sisters Ann (Douglas) Bricker, Kaye Gohsman and Nancy (Mark) Griffith, and many beloved nieces and nephews and their children, extended family and countless friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Gary, her sister and brother-in-law, Edwina and Al Molloseau, her brother, Larry, her sister, Judie Torres, her brother-in-law, Mert (Gracie) Young, and her sister-in-law, Valerie (Lynn) See. A celebration of life service honoring Mo will be held at 11 AM on Friday, September 25, 2026, at The Clearing Church in Fort Gratiot, Michigan. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Mo’s brother-in-law, Pastor Mark Griffith, will officiate with Pastor Ethan Bricker. A light luncheon will be provided after the service. Memorial contributions may be made to The Clearing Church, Gleaners or The Salvation Army.
