Betty Louise McEntee (née Rourke) passed away at Bluewater Hospice Home on Saturday, May 15, 2021, concluding her long and family-filled life. She was 92. Betty was born November 17, 1928, in Owosso, MI. Her parents, Michael and Margaret Rourke, were proud parents to nine children; Betty was the youngest of them all. She attended Goss Elementary, a one-room schoolhouse, and graduated from Owosso High School. On July 10, 1948, she married LeRoy McEntee. Together in their Royal Oak, MI home, they raised five children: William (Kathleen) McEntee of Royal Oak MI, Thomas (Janet) McEntee of Ipswich MA, John McEntee of Royal Oak, Gerald (Karolyn) McEntee of Lexington MI, and Kathleen (Mark) Mantha of Oakville ON. Betty worked in the Royal Oak School District, at Kimball High School. In addition to working and caring for five children, she was a deeply involved volunteer, something she continued her entire life. Betty was a proud graduate of the Michigan State University’s Master Gardener Program. She was an active member of The Lakeshore Garden Club of Lexington. Betty participated in the development of two Blue Star Memorial Markers and gained national recognition for her contribution in the design of the Blue Star Memorial Marker, Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI. Betty was also a dedicated member of the Ave Maria Parish in Lexington, MI. Betty was a world traveler. She cruised the Rhine River, took a safari tour in Kenya, and walked through the Sistine Chapel, along with countless other adventures. She inspired her family and friends with her curiosity and independent spirit. She was fortunate to retire in Lexington MI, where she had a picture-perfect view of Lake Huron. Her family has many treasured memories of days at the beach, family picnics at the park, and campouts in the yard. Bettys’ five children, twelve grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren are left to honor her legacy. Her unique stamp on the world will be remembered by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the staff at McLaren Port Huron Hospital 6N and the staff at Blue Water Hospice Home, Marysville for their compassionate care. The family requests donations are made to the American Cancer Society and Ave Maria Parish, Lexington, MI. Family and friends are invited to visitation at 10am and mass at 11am at Ave Maria Parish in Lexington, MI on Wednesday, May 19th. Burial to follow mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Corunna, MI at 3pm.
