George M. Loomis

December 15, 1938 - November 1, 2020

George Martin Loomis, age 81, of Croswell, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020, at Medilodge of Yale. He was born December 15, 1938, in Highland Park, son of the late Martin and Elna (Ranta) Loomis. George married Cheryl Cline on September 21, 1968, in Southfield. George graduated from Southfield High School in 1957, and then started his own landscaping business. He went on to work as a semi-truck driver for 30 years. George was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lexington since 1977 and served as a Trustee for many of those years. He was a member of the Croswell Lions Club for 38 years, served on The Greater Croswell-Lexington Chamber of Commerce, Croswell Downtown Development Authority, Human Development Commission, and the Croswell Fair Board. He was also a member of The Black River Antique Tractor Club and a life-time member of The Finnish-American Club of Detroit. George was a relentless promotor of downtown Croswell businesses and entrepreneurs. He enjoyed fishing trips up north with his son and grandson, taking cruises, as well as, traveling in his motorhome. George is survived by his wife Cheryl; son, Bruce (Daphne) of Croswell; daughter, Joyce (Neil) Lafferty of Avoca; 3 grandchildren, Robert Loomis, Leah Lafferty, and Ava Lafferty, sister, Margaret (Frank) Hardy of Brighton, nephew, Jason Hardy, and niece, Marcia DeYoung of Howell. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, November 5th, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, in Lexington. Pastor Jacob Buday will officiate. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery in Troy. Friends may call from 2-8 PM Wednesday, November 4th, at the Pomeroy Funeral Home, in Croswell, and at 10-11 AM Thursday at the church. A District Lions Service will take place at 7 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church or the Croswell Lions Club.
