Robert C. Cudney, age 84, a resident of Croswell, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Lake Huron Medical Center. On a Sunday morning, March 4, 1934, on Brown Street in Croswell, Michigan, “Doc” Learmont delivered a son to Ben and Blanche Cudney. He was raised in Croswell and was a member of the first high school class with members from Lexington that graduated in 1952. Bob served in the U.S. Army for one year, 11 months, and 29 days. He was stationed mostly in Georgia and was honorably discharged in March 1956. He then attended Port Huron Junior College (SC4) and from there went to Albion College from which he obtained his degree in June 1960. From there he pursued a career in radio broadcasting. He worked in radio stations in Georgia and in all four counties in the thumb of Michigan. In 1965 he joined with George and Bob Benko to form the Sanilac Broadcasting Corporation. Three years later on June 27, 1968 at 10:00 A.M., WMIC Sandusky, Michigan “hit the airwaves.” Bob also began a teaching career in the fall of 1964 at Mayville Community Schools where he taught History and Speech. He later obtained his teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University. On June 12, 1965, Bob married Anita Smith of Davison, Michigan. They had two children, Joy and Robert II. From 1987 through 1997, Bob served on the Sanilac County Road Commission. He was a member of the Peck American Legion Post #489 for more than 20 years, then transferred to the Croswell American Legion Post #255, a member of the Lions Club International in Mayville and Marlette, a member of the Sanilac Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, and a member of the Jaycees Organizations in Georgia and Michigan. He tried to live the Jaycees creed, especially the last line…”and that service to humanity is the best work of life.” He was preceded in death by daughter Joy; three brothers, George and two baby boys; and by three sisters, Dorothy Grimes, Virginia Kerschenheiter, and Gladys Cudney who only lived six months. Bob is survived by his wife Anita; son Robert II (Melissa); five grandchildren, Rebecca, Amanda, Ben, Bethany, and Jacob; eight great grandchildren; and his dog, Rex. Funeral Services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the F. Presbyterian Church, Croswell. Don Wixson, CP will officiate with military rites by American Legion Post #255. Burial will be in Washington Cemetery, Carsonville. Visiting will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Pomeroy Funeral Home, Croswell and 10 to 11 A.M. Saturday at the Church. Memorials are suggested to the Church or Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
