Robert (Bob) Wade Gabler, 69, of Applegate (previously of Dearborn Heights) went home to be with the Lord on July 26, 2020. He was born on January 4, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, the eldest son of the late Robert G. and Arlene J. (nee Wade) Gabler. Bob met the love of his life, Lynne Bergmans, during high school. On September 9, 1972, they were married in Dearborn, Michigan. Showing his many interests in life, Bob graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Landscape and Nursery Management and from the University of Michigan with a degree in Economics. Bob retired in 2019 after working in the computer industry for 40 years. He held positions at IBM, Mary Maxim, and Carsonville-Port Sanilac Schools. Bob was a former Village President in Lexington, Michigan and treasurer for the Lexington Arts Council for many years. Bob enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and genealogy. He loved antique cars, watching old westerns on television, and eating smoked kielbasa from Joyview Market in Redford. Bob’s newest hobby, one that he was very proud of, was that of amateur beard grower. Bob was known for his cheerful, joking personality and his quick wit. Bob lived his life with great love and appreciation for his family. A loving husband, father, papa, and friend to many, he wanted nothing more than the very best for the family he loved. There is no doubt that he will be dearly missed by his many special friends and loved ones. Bob is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lynne, and his children, Julie (Michael) Foley of Marysville, Katherine (Brien Heckman) Gabler of East Lansing, and Robert (Kristen) Gabler of Croswell, along with 6 grandchildren, Christian, Abigail, Robert (aka RJ), Kenneth, Joseph, and Owen. Bob is also survived by two brothers: James (Judy) Gabler of South Lyon and Thomas Gabler of Wixom plus his mother-in-law, Mary Bergmans of Greenwood Township. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Arlene Gabler, his father-in-law Henry Bergmans, Jr, and grandparents Harold and Edith Wade and George and Laura Gabler. Public visitation will take place (use of masks and social distancing) on Wednesday, July 29,from 4-8 p.m. at Pomeroy Funeral Home in Lexington. A private family service will take place on Thursday, July 30. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree to honor Bob’s love of nature and commitment to a greener Earth.
