She confirmed her faith in her Lord and Savior on May 28, 1944 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Yale. As a primary grade teacher, she taught at Zion English Lutheran School on Van Dyke, Trinity Lutheran in Bay City, and Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran in Saginaw. She, with a thankful heart, served her Lord in many church activities, and cared for many people as a parochial teacher, foster mother, and care giver. Velma was an avid softball player, and played on the Championship team for State of Michigan in 1955. The Lord gave her the blessing of a faithful husband, Robert James Techlin on August 17, 1957, and blessed their marriage with two sons, Todd Robert, and Timothy John (Paula), and three granddaughters, Hope Lois, Taylor Renee, and Jordan Grace Techlin.
