Donald E. Cutler

Donald Edward Cutler 96 passed away peacefully at his home on the family Centennial Farm in Applegate. He was born August 26, 1928, in Applegate son of the late Orivlle and Bessie (McDonald) Cutler, and passed June 21, 2025. He survived by his wife of 77 years Shirley Badgerow Cutler. They were married March 6, 1948 in Croswell Methodist Church. Also survived by sons: Ronald ( Pat) Cutler, Lexington. Douglas Cutler, Applegate granddaughter Jennifer Cutler, Traverse City, great grandson Christian Cutler Port Huron, great granddaughters: Kirstie (Jason) Phelps Carsonville, Gabrielle Pampu ,Boston Ella Pampu Traverse City. great great grandsons: Liam, Jaxon and Caiden Phelps. Also survived by sister in law Kay Cutler and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased: parents: Orville and Bessie (McDonald) Cutler, infant sister Geraldine Cutler, brother Ray Cutler and grandson Michael Cutler. He graduated from Croswell High School in 1946. Don retired from Bad Axe Grain/Agra Sales after 45 years managing both Applegate and Carsonville Elevators. Don loved hunting pheasants, deer and Turkey and owned a hunting cabin in St Helen since 1968. After his retirement he worked for Pomeroy Funeral Home as a greeter. He played softball for 36 years including Applegate Inn, Buel Church, & Westbrook Hdw teams. Don started and led the Applegate 4H Club for 8 years. Don was a fireman at Applegate Fire Department for 20 years including being Assistant Fire Chief and helped with Applegate Boy Scouts. He loved Parades, Festivals and especially the Sanilac County Fair with the 4 H Auctions. Don and Shirley wintered in Florida for the last 33 winters. One of his favorite sayings lately was: “I have the record of being the oldest Cutler in Sanilac County. No other Cutler has lived over 96 years”. Don was cremated per his request and inurnment will be at Washington Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held 12 Noon, Friday, July 11 at Pomeroy Funeral Home Lexington with visitation from 10-12 AM. Patty Olds and JD Landis will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family suggests United Hospice, Marlette or Applegate Methodist Church as Memorials.
