George R. Spangenberg

George Richard Spangenberg, 67, passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2023, in Lexington, MI. He was born on September 11, 1956, in Dearborn, MI to the late Richard and Marilyn (Labadie) Spangenberg. George was well known for his willingness to help others and will be dearly missed by his friends and family. George's love for classic rock was evident as he always had the radio on, singing and humming along. He had a recognizable whistle, laugh and a smile that could get your attention and will be fondly remembered. In his free time, George enjoyed riding his bike, spending time on the water, and hanging out with friends with a cold beer. His energy and passion for working with his hands was noticed by all. In recent years, George slowed down and found joy in spending time with his daughters and granddaughters. They shared many special moments, entertaining him, enjoying ice cream together and caring for him. George is survived by his loving daughters, Holly (Pat) Watroba, Traci Spangenberg, and Christine Spangenberg, as well as his granddaughters, Evelyn and Brooklyn Watroba. He is also survived by Carolyn Spangenberg, who was the mother of his girls. Additionally, George is survived by his sister, Lynn Johnson, his brother, Mark (Lonna) Spangenberg, his nephews, Mike Spangenberg and John (Darcy) Johnson, and his niece, Joan Johnson, great nephews, JD and Desmond, as well as his cousins, Darlene McInnes and Darren Mcinnes, and Aunt Judy Dubrinsky. He had many lifelong friends that always looked out for him. George was a proud Marine. His dedication and commitment to his country was an important part of his life. His girls found comfort that he passed on Veterans Day as a day they will always honor him. A celebration of George's life will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023. Visitation will take place at Ava Maria Parish Hall in Lexington at 10 a.m., followed by an 11:00 a.m. mass at the church. Military Rites will be provided by the Croswell American Legion. After the funeral, a luncheon will be held at Ava Maria Parish. George was preceded in death by his father Richard Spangenberg, mother Marilyn Borowski, and stepfather Bud Borowski. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to his family in memory of George. His family would also like others to consider donating blood to the American Red Cross as he often did this to help save others.
