Jessie Pauline Ellul

LEXINGTON- Jessie Pauline Ellul, 95, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023 peacefully with her family in Lexington. Jessie was born in Detroit but her family had a cottage in Great Lakes Beach, where she spent many of summers. During her early years she and other family members helped her Grandfather, Valentine Falzon, collect stones to build the Stone Castle. She married her love, Andy Ellul, July 14th 1956, and were happily married for 67 years. They spent the last 40+ years enjoying being retire half the year in Florida and half the year in Lexington, where they had many friends and stayed perpetually busy. Mom was an avid reader, at times reading multiple books at one time. She loved playing tennis, playing on her women’s league in Florida until her mid 80s. After hanging up her racquet, she stayed on as Captain for several more years. Mom and Dad loved playing cards with their friends, both in Florida and here in Lexington, having standing weekly games. She loved playing Bridge as well. Mom loved making pastizzi for all her family to enjoy, and loved teaching others how to make this wonderful Maltese treat. Mom loved to “play” the market, teaching herself how to buy and sell stock, and teaching the rest of us how to save our money and budget it. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be remembered by her family for her strength, her smile, her “mmmmmmm muah” kisses, her never believing she was old until the very end, her infectious laugh, her belief in all of us that we could accomplish anything, for setting the standard for what a family should be and opening up her arms and heart to include everyone, her laugh when you’d ask who is her favorite, her listening, her shoulder that you could lean on for anything, her singing birthday calls, and mostly her love of family She is survived by her husband of 67 years Andrew Ellul, her daughters Linda (David) Hambaum and Laura (Michael) Fogarty. Her 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Andrew Charles Ellul. Visitation was held from 9- 11 A.M. on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Lexington. A memorial service was held at 11 A.M. Friday morning at the funeral home. Fr. Donald J. Eppenbrock of the Ave Maria Parish- St. Denis Catholic Church in Lexington officiated. Memorials may be made to the Blue Water Hospice or the American Diabetes Association
