Jessie G. Torrez

CROSWELL: Jessie G. Torrez Sr. , 89, of Croswell died Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Port Huron Hospital in Port Huron, Michigan following a brief illness. Born in Hutto, Texas on September 22, 1922, he was the son of John and Nancy Torrez. On October 14, 1950, he married Francisca Castillo and became a lifelong resident of Croswell, Michigan. In his early years, he worked for Aunt Jane’s Foods and worked campaigns at Michigan Sugar Company. Later, he also worked for Stokley Van Camp. For over 30 years, Jessie worked at Michigan Sugar Company as a flume feeder, lab worker, and custodian. After retiring at the age of 72 from Michigan Sugar Company, Jessie volunteered his time at St. Patrick’s Church as a part-time custodian and handy man. He also was a member of the Croswell Lions Club, Croswell Eagles Club and a devoted St. Patrick’s Church parishioner. For years, he could be found all around Croswell doing many different things, visiting local business establishments with his many friends and enjoying his life to the fullest. He leaves behind his devoted, loving wife and partner of 61 years, Francisca. He is survived by brother Joe (Lola) Torrez of Croswell and sister Estella (Henry) Morales of Flint and sisters-in-law Pauline Ybarra of Pontiac and Florence Torrez of Winter Garden, Florida. He is also survived by six children: daughter Jane (Robert) Garza, son Jesse Jr. (Diane), son Lupe (Pauline), daughter Terry (Jim) MacMillan daughter Mary Lou, and son Robert (Penny). He was a loving grandfather to Stephanie (Bruce) Davis, Victoria (Raul) Rico, Kristy (Joe) Johnston, Robert (Jessie Ames) Garza, Jacob Garza, Dayna Torrez, Nicole MacMillan, Lindsay Torrez, Adam (Melissa) Garza, Cruz Torrez, Jesse Torrez III, James MacMillan, Cody Torrez, Lauren Torrez, Alexis Torrez, Austin Torrez, Zachary Torrez, Rheana Torrez and Selena Torrez. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Bryce, Brynn, Ben and Braylon Davis, Diego and Javier Rico, Justin, Joey and Jax Johnston, Maxwell and Mason Garza, and Ellie Harder. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Nancy, brothers Raymond and John Torrez and sisters Mary Hinojosa and Aurora Lerma. Pall bearers are his grandsons Robert, Jacob and Adam Garza, Jesse Torrez III, Cody and Zachary Torrez, James MacMillan, and Cruz and Austin Torrez Jessie was our dad, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed. The void in our lives will be forever lasting and enduring. It is with love, sadness and strength we say good-bye to this great and wonderful man who we were very blessed to have in our lives. He has touched more lives than he will ever know and his friends and family are better people because of the impact he had on them. Jessie will be remembered by all of his nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. We are forever grateful to the wonderful staff and caregivers at Port Huron Hospital, who not only provided medical care but also compassion and warmth to our loved one. We would also like to give a special thank you to Dr. Randy Plonka and his staff for the many years of support and care, given not only to our loved one, but also to us, his entire family. Visitation is Thursday from 2-9 PM and Friday 9:30 – 10:30 AM at the Pomeroy Funeral Home, Croswell. Rosary 7 PM Thursday evening. Funeral Mass will be held 11 AM Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Croswell. Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Croswell, Michigan. Luncheon at St. Patrick’s Church will follow the burial. Memorials in Jessie’s honor may be made to St. Patrick’s Church.
