Valeria Bartley

CROSWELL: Valeria Mae Bartley, age 97, of Port Huron, died Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Caretel Inns of Linden after a brief illness. She was born January 11, 1913 in Croswell, the daughter of the late George J. Stewart and Vernah Grandy. She married Robert F. Bartley January 23, 1933. He died September 29, 1968. Valeria graduated from Croswell High School in 1931 and graduated from Derma Bay School of Beauty in Detroit in 1933. She was employed by Elevyn’s Beauty Shop in Lexington before buying her own business in Croswell in 1956, where she did business as Valeria’s Beauty Shop for twenty five years. Upon retirement she moved to Port Huron, where she lived at Northport Apartments for 30 years. Valeria loved to travel and took many trips with her family and friends. She was an avid reader, and was an active card player and bingo player throughout her life. She was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Croswell while living in Croswell and in Port Huron she was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church on Stone Street. Valeria is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert G. (Gloria) Bartley of Dearborn Heights, MI, son and daughter-in-law George J. (Leona) Bartley of Croswell, MI, daughter and son-in-law Patricia A. (Robert) Dailey of Grand Blanc, MI. She is survived by three grandsons, George J. Bartley of Mevindale, MI, Jon E. (Maureen) Bartley of North Syracuse, NY, and David M. (Emily) Bartley of Manchester, MI. One grandson-in-law John Delahaye of Carsonville, MI. Three great grandsons, Randy (Janine) Bartley of Tallahassee, FL, Alec Delahaye of Carsonville, MI and Sean Bartley of North Syracuse, NY. Three great granddaughters, Lauren Bartley, Alissa Bartley, both of North Syracuse, NY, and Janelle Delahaye of Carsonville, MI. Two great-great granddaughters, Elizabeth Marie Bartley of Tallahassee, FL and Ava Mae Barthelomew of North Syracuse, NY. One brother, Jack Stewart of West Columbia, SC and one special cousin Harold Nehmer of Croswell. Several nieces and nephews. Valeria was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor Stewart in 1921, a grandson Tim Bartley in 1978, and a granddaughter Mary Ann Delahaye in 2008. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Monday, October 4, 2010 at Pomeroy Funeral Home, Croswell. The Rev. Kenneth Hetzel, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Croswell, will officiate. Burial will be in Croswell Cemetery. Visitation will be 12 noon – 8 PM Sunday and 10 – 11 AM Saturday. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
