Yvonne J. Walker

Yvonne (Van Camp) Walker, 97, passed away June 5, 2022, after a brief illness. Yvonne loved nature in all its forms, as well as gardening, cross-country skiing, cooking and baking, crafts, traveling and, most of all, her family. She was a truly joyful person, always smiling, seeking fun and including others. Everyone she met was charmed by her warm spirit and passionate zest for life. Yvonne’s ready laugh personified her happy, spirited character and the sense of wonder she held for all God's creation. Born in Croswell, Michigan, on May 22, 1925, to Russell and Avis (Casey) Van Camp, Yvonne was the middle of three siblings (brothers Orle and Dallas), all of whom preceded her in death. Early in life, Yvonne was employed by Electric Auto-Lite, where she worked as a draftsman during World War II, and Detroit Edison, where she was an accountant. In 1955 she married the late Donald (Don) Walker and with him built the family and made the home that became the pillar of her life. Throughout her years, Yvonne was an active participant and leader in her church community and built lasting relationships with young and old alike. But no bond was more precious to her than the one she shared with her husband, Don, and their sons Greg and Chris. More than anything, enjoying every special moment with her family and friends defined the joyful and generous life she lived. Yvonne is survived by her sons Greg (Karen) and Chris, grandchildren Megan (Bill) Grimaldi, Brenna (Matt) Burlile, and Max Florka, great-grandson Liam Grimaldi and her dear friend Ruth Walls. She leaves many cherished nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Yvonne will be truly missed but never forgotten, as her legacy will live on through all those who knew and loved her. Visitation will be Saturday, June 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Croswell, immediately followed by the funeral and commitment service at the Croswell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make donations to the Buel United Methodist Church’s memorial fund, 6010 Sheridan Line Rd., Croswell, MI 48422.
